Abit of film Knowledge…

It’s a dirty business most frequently committed by soulless ( infantrymen of fortune ) ghouls. ‘The atrocities in Darfur are dreadful, pass the butter.’ Why is genocide called ‘ethnic cleansing’? It’s not extraordinarily clean. The smells of rotting and burned flesh are everywhere the ‘cleansing’ happens. There is of course, no disposal site which should hold volumes of remains numbering in the many thousands. Consider it this way, somebody shoots a recording of your fave cousin’s marriage. But we’ll be blindfolded against what we don’t would like to see. The end result is a pleasant, typically constant recording of the event, with sudden stops and starts here and there when the primary activity changes or moves to a different area or location that needs a different ‘shot’.

The final result is a compilation of photos and sound that’s significantly better and with a little luck more unusual and gratifying than still pictures, but still leaves a lot to be desired. The ensuing piece would tell the tale of the fruits of your cousin’s three-year love, as announced by one or two key family members. These 2 ‘teams’ have turned into nationwide clubs, each launching their own sites alongside ‘team specific’ merchandise. The upward thrust of ‘Team Edward’ and ‘Team Jacob’ has given lots of hype messing up the imminent release of Twilight. Twilight hasn’t only seen fulfillment in the theatre, but also with the official goods line. The acclaim for Twilight has reached lengths that 99.9% of films will never reach.

Asit Sen was also a good director and his many films were re-made in Hindi Theatre at a later stage. The most noted of his films was Deep Jwele Jai. Suchitra Sen played the lead actress in the movie, and received a couple of awards for this role. Another of his films, Uttar Phalguni was produced by Uttam Kumar, and became a massive hit. Kristen Scott Thomas won EU Actress as the mysterious ex-con in Il y a longtemps que je t’aime, a role she played all in French. This too was a very crowded field : Arta Dobroshi as a disoriented Albanian guestworker in Belgium in Le Silence de Lorna, Hiam Abbass as a Palestinian landowner who becomes a cause clbre in Lemon Tree, Ursula Werner as an old age pensioner with tons of ladylike wants in Wolke nine as well as Sally Hawkins ‘ great comedic shtick in easy going and Beln Rueda’s driven-made-by-ghosts shtick in El Orfanato. My only regret here is that there wasn’t any space left over for Barbara Sarafian for her great performance in Moscow, Belgium ( Aanrijding in Moscou ). Magdalena Biedrzycka won the Prix d’Excellence for her 1940s costume designs in Katyn, and rounding out this group of feel-good winners was Lady Judi Dench, who won a lifelong acheivement Award.
